Popular shopping websites, increasing demand for gaming experts, and growing apps development are all signs that Malaysia is on the right track to play a leading part in the global digital revolution. A rapidly developing Digital Economy is producing multiple opportunities such as becoming a startup entrepreneur (picture the Lazada and Alibaba shopping platforms), online game tournaments (like eSports), all fuelled by major drivers such as cloud technology, big data analytics, eCommerce, and fintech.
All these indicate that IT fever has reached a new high and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. The demand for IT graduates is growing in tune with Malaysia’s digital technology industry.
How does this impact you as a student?
One of the steps that the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is using to grow the digital economy is to equip young students with the right technology knowledge and skills.
In 2017, the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and MDEC awarded and recognised 13 Premier Digital Tech Universities and Preferred Digital Tech Polytechnics as top institutions of higher learning, which can deliver first-class theoretical and practical training. This is just one of the initiatives taken by the government to produce top talents and future leaders in the digital tech industry and to help encourage bright students to fulfill their dreams in Technology courses.
MDEC is proud to announce the launch of the Digital Tech Education Fund Website (DTEF), https://edufund.mdec.com.my.
The Digital Tech Education Fund (DTEF) is offered in collaboration with a network of education funders involving some of the best educational institutions in Malaysia in order to give access to high potential students to pursue digital technology courses at MDEC Premier Digital Tech Universities. A total of 8 premier Institutes of Higher Learnings (IHLs) such as Universiti Malaya, Asia Pacific University, and more universities were recognised for their qualifications and commitment in offering top-notch digital technology courses and ensuring highly skilled graduates continue to flourish to meet the demand for digital professionals both locally and globally
This initiative is invaluable for students who have just received their SPM results and who want to further pursue/develop their passion in an IT environment. With these funds and scholarships, MDEC hopes to continue the objective of developing IT talents and students for the Malaysian market.
